Lacawac Sanctuary is located on the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack offers more than just a hiking experience. About 100 miles west of New York City, and a world away. It not only offers a multitude of small trails (.5 to 2.9 miles), but an opportunity to see research, education, and preservation in action. Instead of just passing through, immerse yourself in the “living laboratory” by visiting the onsite research station. Prepare to spend a few hours of not just hiking, but enjoying the many family/kid-friendly events such as wilderness survival classes, animal detectives, and natural sciences discussions led by local experts. Due to the location, there are few local restaurants, so bring a snack and a smile, the staff will be glad to see you.
Directions
From Ierstate 84:
Take the Lake Wallenpaupack/Greentown Exit (20) and follow Route 507 north for half a mile. Turn left onto Ledgedale Road. Follow to stop sign, then turn right (toward Hawley). Follow this to the main entrance marked by a stone gate.
